Sellers can delete items in their inventory. Read this article to learn about the process of deleting items, what deleted lots look like on the front end, and AuctionNinja's recommended best practices when deleting items from active sales.
A seller might need to delete a lot for a number of reasons.
- A consignor retracted an item.
- An item was lost or broken.
- The item was accidentally removed by a family member.
- The authenticity of an item is in question and the seller decides to have it authenticated or tested prior to selling.
Whatever the reason, AuctionNinja allows the removal of items from active auctions using two separate methods that can be used to fit different situations.
Removing the item from an auction:
Within the seller dashboard, select "Inventory."
Sellers can search for the item by name, number or filter by auction.
Once the lot is located, select the drop down arrow next to the auction.
If a seller isn't sure which sale the item will be placed in next, they can put the item on the "select one" option at the top of the list in order to ensure that the item is not associated with any given sale.
This option will keep the item in the seller's inventory. If the seller intends to sell the item later, they should choose this method of lot removal.
Deleting the item from the seller's inventory:
Alternatively, sellers can select "delete" on the manage inventory screen. This will delete the item from the seller's inventory completely. Sellers can NOT access deleted inventory for resale.
Best practices:
It is always best for sellers to contact the high bidder before deleting a lot.
BEFORE removing the item from the auction, sellers should go to auctions. Within the auctions tab, select the auction item number.
Selecting this box will bring sellers to the manage auction items screen. Sellers can then navigate to the correct lot, and select the number of bids.
This will open the bid history, which will show the high bidder. Sellers can copy and paste the high bidders name into their "clients" search, and contact the individual via AuctionNinja.
Here are some message templates that will help bidders understand that an item was removed in a professional and friendly manner:
Hi (bidder's first name), thank you so much for bidding on my auction. Unfortunately, we had to remove lot #(put the appropriate lot #). Lot removal is rare and we are so sorry for the inconvenience. We greatly appreciate your business and you're more than welcome to bid on any of the other fine lots in this sale! Thank you!
